SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.COM) House Speaker Mark Mickelson (R) of Sioux Falls says everybody works together on economic development in South Dakota's largest city.
No fighting in Sioux Falls, he says on KELO Radio's It's Your Business Show with Bill Zortman, and that doesn't always happen in other South Dakota communities.
"Lotta communities you'll end up with people getting jealous or envious or not wanting someone to get ahead, or not being their idea,"
Mickelson says workforce development is a big part of economic development. Business, government, education, and community leaders all have to work together to make it happen. Mickelson hopes the Sioux Falls School Board will set up Southeast Technical Institute independently from board control. He says that will lead to a healthier more involved relationship between STI and the local business community.
Booming Sioux Falls has a challenge of encouraging more people to move to town to beef up the workforce so more businesses will decide to relocate. On February 15, the Sioux Falls Development Foundation launches a new 'one stop shop' website for people and businesses thinking about moving to the area.
