SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Investigators with Sioux Falls Fire Rescue say a 64-year-old woman was the victim in Sunday morning's fatal fire on North Tenth Avenue.
Battalion Chief Mike Topp says it appears the accidental fire was caused by smoking but he couldn't be specific.
Topp says investigators haven't pinpointed what the smoking material was cigarettes, lighters, matches or ashtrays.
He says the majority of the damage was caused by smoke and most of the damage was in the living room. He says there wasn't much fire but plenty of smoke and heat. The double-wide mobile home was an older model with a lot of wood paneling and furniture.
Top says once firefighters got inside they found a small flame but they encountered more smoke and heat. He says modern furniture foam tends smoke heavily with a lot of poison.
Tops says it's been three years since the last fatal fire in Sioux Falls.
Officer Sam Clemens identifies the victim has Karanne Kaye Miller.
Fire Rescue says Miller's body was found just inside the door to the mobile home.
