SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The South Dakota House Health and Human Services Committee today melded two measures dealing with nursing home beds.
Representative Wayne Steinhauer of Hartford amended one measure with provisions of another to deal with reports on the number of nursing home beds available.
Steinhauer says the report should include the status of nursing home facilties, the number of beds and any beds that are available for redistribution. And, Steinhauer says, added wording that would not just look at nursing home beds but the long care industry in its entirety.
Department of Health Secretary Kim Malsam-Rysdon says they do many reports every year.
Malsam-Rysdon says her department looks at the redistribution of nursing home beds on an annual basis already. She added that the department will be happy to continue to do that.
The mash-up passed unanimously with a do pass recommendation.
