SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Minnehaha County State's Attorney Aaron McGowan says charges against Dr. Jonathan Cohen were dropped because the State could not contact a necessary out-of-state witness.
The 36-year-old Cohen faced charges including human trafficking, sexual exploitation, child pornography and drug charges.
The case involves Cohen's relationship with a 16-year-old runaway from Atlanta in August and October of last year. Cohen twice flew the girl to Sioux Falls and they engaged in sex.
Cohen was arrested in early October when the girl called 911 saying the relationship began to be a concern for her.
Cohen's attorney claims his client was unaware of the girl's age until he received word from the teenager's family revealing her true age.
McGowan says the investigation is continuing, however, and the charges were dismissed without prejudice. That means charges against Cohen could be brought in the future.
