SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Saturday is the silver anniversary of the Lamb Bonanza at South Dakota State in Brookings.

Extension Sheep Specialist Jeff Held says six lamb pelts will be auctioned off during the men's and women's basketball games at Frost Arena.

Held says the money goes to student scholarships.  He says it's quite a sight to see 5,000 or more fans watching an auction happen on the Jack's basketball floor.  He says the scholarships go to the animal science and athletic departments at State.

Held says over the years the money has grown.  He says the Lamb Bonanza's goal is to provide five Jackrabbit guarantees, which are a $1,000 each, off the auction.

Lamb sandwiches and cracker spread will be served from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on the north side of the track in Frost Arena.  The South Dakota Sheep Growers provide the lamb to give basketball fans an opportunity to try lamb.

South Dakota State Women host University of South Dakota at 2 p.m followed by the SDSU - Oral Roberts Men's game.
