WASHINGTON, DC (KELO AM) Somewhere in the sea of people at the 44th annual March for Life in Washington is a small contingent from the Sioux Falls Catholic Diocese.
Spokesman Eric Gallagher says about 105 people took two buses to the march. He says there's also a group from Rapid City.
"Our reason for going is just to be a witness, to be committed to pursuing the right to life and fighting against the acts against life," Gallagher explains to KELO Radio News as his group marches to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Andrew Welbig of Sioux Falls says he's marching because he says life is precious even when it's inconvenient. The crowd is really something.
"its people just as far as I can see. I'm a pretty tall guy but there's just so many people. We are all marching now, holding up our signs, trying to stick together. It's really amazing," describes Welbig.
Tom Kessler from Aberdeen says the crowd is so large that if you take your eyes off your own people, you might lose them. He made the long trip to Washington by bus to be part of the message.
"to help change the hearts of people so they choose life over abortion and to know that there are other options."
The U.S. Supreme Court in 1973 ruled that abortion is part of a woman's 14th Amendment right to privacy.
