SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Speaking before the Sioux Falls Rotary Club yesterday Governor Daugaard offered a condensed version of his State of the State message delivered a week earlier.
Daugaard says while sales tax revenue is lower, South Dakota is better off than other states.
Daugaard says Nebraska last week announced $276 million dollars in cuts. He says South Dakota isn't looking at cuts. It's possible the state's budget could see a 1% or a .5% increase.
Daugaard says low commodity prices are a challenge but they can lead to other opportunities.
He says one of the best uses for low-priced crops is to feed livestock or process for other food uses. He says those are the types of things producers want to do in-state as much as possible.
Daugaard says Ag Processing is planning a state-of-the-art soybean processing plant at Aberdeen with groundbreaking this spring.
