SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Sioux Falls Police say 28-year-old Jamie Lee Wounded Arrow was killed January first but her body was not discovered until five days later after residents at the apartment at 8th and Cleveland smelled a strong odor.
Captain Blaine Larsen says 25-year old Joshua LeClaire will be be charged with murder and manslaughter.
Larsens says a neighbor noticed the odor and when they went to Wounded Arrow's apartment saw that the door was slightly open. The neighbor peeked inside the apartment, saw the crime scene and called police.
Investigators found Wound Arrow's body in a back bedroom and she had suffered multiple stab wounds.
Larsen says video surveillance allegedly shows LeClaire entering Wounded Arrow's apartment and leaving an hour-and-a-half later on January 1st.
Larsen says Wounded Arrow is a transgender female but detectives aren't saying that this is a hate crime. He says federal authorities have been notified, however, if the evidence points in that direction.
