SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) Demolition crews on Thursday began taking down what was left standing after the building collapse in downtown Sioux Falls.
The crews are demolishing the second story portions of the collapsed Copper Lounge building, and the Eastwold Smoke Shop building. City officials estimate that demolition will be completed by the weekend.
The demolition is very important due to these structures' impact on the instability of the south wall of the PAve structure next door and also because of the possibility of snow this weekend.
Street closures remain in effect. 10th Street remains closed from 2nd Avenue to Phillips Avenue. Phillips Avenue remains closed from 9th Street to 10th Street. These street closures are necessary for public safety until the remaining at-risk structure can be safely removed.Sidewalks are open all along the west side of Phillips Avenue and the south side of 10th Street. If traveling through downtown from the east, please use 8th Street or 14th Street.
